Despite centuries of study, Schizophrenia and its causes remain complicated to comprehend. The current methods of treatment target primarily the brain's dopamine pathways, and while they suffice in resolving acute psychosis, only 13.5% of patients with Schizophrenia fully recover enough to live a "normal" life. To understand the nature of severe mental illness and to hopefully move towards a better prognosis for our patients, a more multidisciplinary approach is needed. Dr. Adonis Sfera is a Professor of Behavioral Health at Loma Linda University, a Forensic Psychiatrist par Excellence, and one of the leading researchers into potential immunogenic causes of Schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.
